Labour ComplianceThe Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation (MoSPI) on August 12, 2026, issued the Consumer Price Index (CPI) – July 2026.

The following has been stated:

• The All-India year-on-year CPI inflation for July 2026 stood at 4.45% (provisional), compared with 4.38% in June 2026. Rural inflation was 4.84%, while urban inflation stood at 3.96%. Food inflation, measured by the Consumer Food Price Index (CFPI), increased to 5.52%, with rural and urban food inflation at 5.79% and 5.05%, respectively. Housing inflation stood at 2.22%.

• Among individual items, silver jewellery recorded the highest inflation at 109.84%, followed by ginger at 83.62%, garlic at 35.36%, gold/diamond/platinum jewellery at 32.98%, and onion at 22.54%. On the other hand, potato recorded -16.56% inflation, followed by motor cars and jeeps at -6.72%, lady's finger at -5.52%, peas at -5.27%, and tomato at -4.59%.

• The CPI data were compiled from price information collected from 1,407 urban markets, including online markets, and 1,465 villages across States/UTs. The response rate during July 2026 was 100% for both rural and urban markets. The CPI for August 2026 is scheduled to be released on September 14, 2026, subject to the stated holiday contingency.
